Two NPA rebels surrender to army in Maramag, Bukidnon
MARAMAG NEWS | BUKIDNON NEWS – According to reports, at least two members of the rebel group New People’s Army voluntarily surrendered to the army last May 19, 2011 at around 8 am.
Jun Jan-ayan alias “Ring” and Bernie Mariano alias “Norman” surrendered to the 8th Infantry Battalion at its headquarters in South Poblacion, Maramag, Bukidnon.
The two rebels were reportedly members of the NPA’s Guerilla Front 89 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee and residents of Sitio Balaodo, Barangay St Peter, Malaybalay City.
The two rebels, who reportedly brought along with them 2 cal. 38 pistols as well as several ammunition, surrendered after negotiations with members of 8IB.
Because of the surrender, army officials said that they are more confident of the effectiveness of their community organizing efforts especially in terms of peace and development. (with reports from 4CMO/PIA-10)
