Bukidnon farmers to send 16 tons of organic vegetables to Manila weekly

Starting June 2021, several farmers in Bukidnon will be supplying Metro Manila at least 16 tonnes of assorted organic vegetables.

A deal has been finalized between Talakag, Bukidnon vegetable farmers and a chain of organic vegetable stores in Metro Manila as well as other parts of Luzon.

Under the deal, National Organic Agriculture Board director Renato “Atong” dela Cruz and his wife will represent the buyers. They will buy assorted vegetables weekly at agreed prices higher than the prevailing buying price. Dela Cruz will also supply organic inputs needed by the farmers including vegetable seeds specified by buyers, the cost of which will be deducted after harvest.

A Talaandig tribal leader, Ryan Danio, will represent the Bukidnon farmers, who have reportedly agreed to apply for Organic Vegetable Accreditation.

The Mindanao Development Authority will also assist the farmers’ group in accessing an initial revolving production fund of about Php 2M from either government financing institutions or credit cooperatives.
