BukidnonOnline.com Exclusive: Bukidnon State University chorale in Czech Republic (Part 2)
Here’s additional kuwento about the successful trip of the members of the Bukidnon State University Chorale in Czech Republic. Apart from bagging the coveted Rainbow Cormorant Trophy, the Bukidnon State University Chorale, headed by Mercibelle Barroso-Abejuela, also graced the Opening of Blumentritt and Rizal Bastion in Litomerice, Czech Republic. The event was held last June 22, 2011 at the Velka Dominikánská Street in Litomerice, Czech Republic.
The exhibit was co-curated by our dear friend Dennis N. Almazan, along with Abejuela and Dr. Sainuddin Moti.
The Bukidnon State University Chorale sang Filipino ballad “Sampaguita” as well as “Farewell To You” by Dr. Jose Rizal. The group also sang the ASEAN theme song as well as one Czech folk song during the program.
The exhibit featured traditional, cultural garments including samples of the popular Barong Tagalog, Maria Clara-inspired gowns, and a number of authentic Muslim and Bukidnon Tribes costumes. Also displayed were Darangen fashion dolls, fashion accessories and a book on Philippine weaving entitled Habi.
The idea of an exhibition of traditional Philippine garments was conceived by the office of Mayor Chlupac in early 2009 with the opening of the “Blumentritt-Rizal Bastion”. The bastion was established in the same year to house a memorabilia on the friendship between Dr. Jose Rizal and Professor Ferdinand Blumentritt, a collection of pictures and documents about Philippine-Czech relations and a number of Philippine cultural items.
