Php 27 Billion sought for Pulangui IV hydro dam desiltation

An estimated Php 27 Billion is needed in order to completely clear the mud deposit from the Pulangui IV hydroelectric Plant reservoir in Maramag town.

The manager of the said hydro plant, Engr. Albert Antonio, said this before the members of the provincial council recently.

Antonio said that “upon the construction of the hydro plant in 1985, the water capacity in its reservoir was 67 million cubic meters. But recently it is estimated to have only 16.82 million cubic meters because of siltation.”

He said the siltation is caused by erosion carried by strong rains to the reservoir.

Antonio said that this has proven to be the main problem of Pulangui IV Hydro Electric Plant.

He said the eroded soil came from plantations of banana, pineapple, corn, sugarcane, and others.
