Official website of Bukidnon is offline AGAIN due to non-payment?

BUKIDNON | BUKIDNON ONLINE | BUKIDNON WEBSITE – So I logged on to the Official Website of Bukidnon today, December 2, 2010 at exactly 1PM to see if the government employees over at the Provincial Government of Bukidnon bothered to upload photos or news items with regard to the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony yesterday, December 1, 2010. I must admit, however, that I wasn’t really counting on it since the last news article there was uploaded early November still (the last one before that was uploaded last July! Yup, that’s how “updated” the Bukidnon official website is *sigh). Lo and behold this greeted me:

As far as I know, whenever a hosting company suspends a domain/site, it’s more often than not because of non-payment. My theory is that the Provincial Government of Bukidnon has not paid the hosting company or the company they got the domain from for months now despite repeated collection reminders. Either that or the Bukidnon government no longer wanted to renew or use the site at all (which I hope is not the case).

Take note, this isn’t the first time that the OFFICIAL (take note, OFFICIAL!) website has been offline. About a year and a half ago, the site was inaccessible. Finally, when it was “launched,” there were hardly any updates at all. And NOW THIS.

I have so many thoughts about this but can I just emphasize one thing?

DOMAIN NAMES ARE ABSOLUTELY CHEAP. WEB HOSTING FEES ARE ABSOLUTELY CHEAP.

And to my fellow Bukidnon Bloggers — I think it’s really high time that we show everyone WHAT WE ALL CAN DO.
