Third District Rep. Manoy Zubiri wants to give sewing machines to all barangays in Bukidnon
Bukidnon 3rd District Congressman Manuel Zubiri recently said that he aims to distribute sewing machines to all barangays in the Province of Bukidnon in the hope that these can be used to produce face masks.
In a press conference following the formal turnover of a Php 4.5 Million covered court in Barangay 9, Malaybalay City, the older brother of Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri said that the transmission rate of COVID-19 is “alarming.” As of this writing, Bukidnon has 72 COVID-19 positive cases.
The Bukidnon solon said that he has already given over 120 Japan-made sewing machines and that he currently has 50 on hand, ready to be distributed.
Bukidnon has a total of 464 barangays.
Zubiri said that upon receiving the sewing machine, he hopes that the barangay can fabricate face masks and distribute these to their constituents. He said that the priority should be children and senior citizens. If a certain barangay’s women’s group, for instance, doesn’t have a dressmaking program, he can send a trainer to that barangay.
When asked about how to source the raw materials for the face masks, he said that that’s where either the local government unit or barangay leadership comes in. In the case of the latter, the barangay may opt to fabricate the masks and sell them at cost, just enough to recuperate the amount used to buy the materials.
This face mask making project is part of his initiatives to address the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
He also appealed to the public to follow proper health and safety protocols.
