Roque declares gubernatorial plan, possible foe Manoy Zubiri insists on work focus
Bukidnon 4th District Rep. Rogelio Neil Roque recently announced his intent to gun for the Bukidnon gubernatorial seat this May 2022 elections. His possible foe for the position, however, insists that it is “too early” to talk about political plans.
Oneil Roque, who is on his last term as congressman, declared his plan to select local media practitioners last March 18, 2021.
A post about Roque’s intent to run, made by Mars Medina of Radyo Pilipinas, has so far garnered 38 comments and 418 shares on Facebook. Another post, made by Jimmy Verallo of WildFM Valencia, has so far garnered 45 shares and 32 comments on the same social media platform.
Roque himself has stayed silent, however. As of this writing, he has not publicly posted anything about his plan to run for Bukidnon governor.
Since last year, talks have been rife that Roque, who is on his last term as congressman, will seek higher office. He topped the list of Valencia City councilors in 2010.
Meanwhile, his possible rival for the Bukidnon gubernatorial seat, incumbent Bukidnon 3rd District Rep. Manuel Zubiri, told Bukidnon Online that it is still “too early” to talk about politics.
“I am focused on work. There is still so much to do in my district. This pandemic is still far from over and I want to do my best and help as many as I can,” Zubiri emphasized.
He was quick to add, however, that he understands why people are curious of his reaction to Roque’s announcement.
“All I can say is, may the best servant of the people win. Ang pinaka maayong suluguon sa katawhan labi na gyud sa kabus ug timawa mao ang mag madaugon,” he told Bukidnon Online.
Manoy Zubiri is believed to be the natural successor of his father, incumbent Bukidnon Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri, Jr. They both belong to the ruling Bukidnon Paglaum Party. Manoy is Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri’s older brother.
