Jail guards snatched by rebels in Bukidnon

A group of communist rebels allegedly abducted 4 jail guards in Bukidnon Thursday early morning at around 3:30 a.m. as the latter were on their way to the Davao Penal Colony.

News reports say that there were roughly 200 rebels who attacked the vehicle carrying the jail guards and a certain Dennis Rodenas. The rebels allegedly only wanted to retrieve Rodenas, who authorities believe is an important member of the rebel group.

Philippine National Police spokesperson Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Jr. said that Rodenas was a suspect and was captured for illegal possession of explosives. Police believe that Rodenas is a bomb expert of the local communist forces.

The service vehicle that carried the 4 members of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology was en route to the Davao Penal Colony at around 3:30 a.m. Thursday when the rebels blocked their path in Sitio Rawari, Kitaotao, Bukidnon.

“They came from Ozamis City to transfer eight inmates, including Dennis Rodenas,” said Cruz.

The four jail guards on board were surprised by the rescue operation but they were also taken by the rebels on their way to escape.

The four abducted BJMP personnel were identified as:

Jail Inspector Tudyog

Jail Inspector Llamare

Senior Jail Officer 2 Begones

and Jail Officer 1 Bayugo

Senior Supt. Lyndel Desquitado, director of the Bukidnon Police, said one of the young BJMP officers had just hitched a ride to Cagayan de Oro City.
