BukidnonOnline Exclusive: Senator Kiko Pangilinan meets with Sumilao farmers, shares simple meal with them
BUKIDNONONLINE.COM – Last May 27, 2011, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan was in the Province of Bukidnon. He toured the Sumilao hog farm and cassava processing plant owned by San Miguel Foods, Inc. and met with Del Monte officials to discuss the status of the pineapple industry not only in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental but in the entire country.
A more special part of his Bukidnon tour, however, was when Senator Kiko Pangilinan met with the Sumilao farmer-leaders and their families. Senator Francis Pangilinan also shared a simple meal with them – he ate cassava and saging and also drank corn coffee.
The farmer-leaders, by the way, are the same Sumilao farmers who walked thousands of miles from Mindanao to Manila in order to fight for their land. The same Sumilao farmers who, despite receiving certificates of land ownership from the Department of Agrarian Reform, have yet to get tens of hectares of land.
The senator and husband of megastar Sharon Cuneta also harvested some cassava.
