Bukidnon foundation urges corporations to support IP communities
Hineleban Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit organization based in Bukidnon, is urging corporations to support Indigenous Peoples (IPs) communities to not only help secure food and water for them but to also help restore the last virgin forests and ample river flow requirements of all water users in the country.
Hineleban’s vision is to ensure the nation’s water, food and human security by reforesting the mountain ranges of Mindanao. These ranges are inhabited by the IP communities.
On the official Hineleban Foundation website, they explained that by supporting IPs through food security, followed by sustainable livelihood and finally, reforestation, they also play a more active role in the protection of the remaining primary forests in the Philippines.
Currently, Hineleban Foundation has partnered with private, environmentally-conscious corporations that support IP communities to assist them with the community’s Family Food Security and with the production of Sustainable Disposable Income-Generating Crops (sustainable and thriving enterprises) while reforesting cogonal and denuded areas.
Hineleban Foundation’s reforestation methodology is internationally recognized, having received the Grand Prize Award for Best Project in the forestry sector, from the Agricultural Research Centre for International Development and the French Development Agency in 2015.
The foundation’s name, Hineleban (He-ne-leu-ban), is a sacred Talaandig-Hingaunen term that literally means “Mother Tree of the rainforest that sustains the cycle of all life.”
Founded in 2006 in Tuminugan Farm, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, Philippines, Hineleban Foundation promotes reforestation, environmental conservation, and sustainable farming practices to preserve the Mount Kitanglad rainforest ecosystem.
Through partnerships with IP farmers, Hineleban sells Hineleban Farms Adlai, Hineleban Coffee, Tuminugan Turmeric, yacon syrup and more.
