BANNED: Rice trade outside Bukidnon (no selling, no delivering allowed)

UPDATE: This EO has been lifted.

It is no longer allowed to sell and deliver rice outside of the Province of Bukidnon.

By virtue of Executive Order Number 18 signed today, March 27, 2020, by Bukidnon Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri, Jr., all rice producers, traders and suppliers of rice in Bukidnon are now banned from selling, releasing and delivering rice grains outside of the province.

The EO takes effect immediately.

Incidentally, Bukidnon is considered the food basket of Mindanao.

The Bukidnon Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Task Force, as well as law enforcement agencies, are tasked to strictly enforce the provisions included in the said EO.

The move to ban the trade of rice outside of the Province of Bukidnon stems from the reported interest of the provincial government to procure 40,000 bags of rice at Php 1,850.00 per bag. The provincial government, which intends to purchase 60,000 additional bags of rice, says that the Bukidnon traders have been selling outside the province. Thus, depleting the supply.
