Very sad state of Bukidnon baseball team featured on national TV
BUKIDNON NEWS | BUKIDNON CONTROVERSY | BUKIDNON SPORTS | BUKIDNON BASEBALL TEAM – This is really bad news. Like seriously bad, frustrating, irksome news.
In the most recent episode of Failon Ngayon, a program that airs every Saturday via ABS CBN Channel 2 and one that’s hosted by veteran broadcaster Ted Failon, the very sad plight of the Bukidnon Baseball team was featured. Let’s just say that the program uncovered several truths that people in Bukidnon may not have known.
Actually, the topic was about the sorry state of Philippine sports. Ted Failon anchored his report on the 2012 Palarong Pambansa. He discussed the perennial problems that beset Philippine sports – lack of funds, lack of support, lack of this, lack of that. While those problems may not be new, what bothered us more was when we saw the actual situation involving the baseball team of Bukidnon.
One of the Bukidnon baseball players who got interviewed was one named Jeric Mercado. In his interview, he shared that their baseball equipment, shoes, uniforms etc have been used for 5 years already. He also said that their equipment were merely borrowed.
Warning before you continue reading: you will really be pissed when you watch the video below!
And – this is where we got really pissed – he showed their baseball gloves, balls, shoes, which all looked so sorry. The gloves and balls had traces of handmade stitches. The balls were peeling. Their shoes looked as if these were about to melt off their feet because of damage. All of their equipment looked beyond repair!
The Bukidnon baseball team coach, Karl Marx Dumotan, said that no support was given to him and to the rest of the team.
“No help…walang tulong na umabot sa amin,” he said, adding that attention must be given to these talented, promising boys.
We couldn’t agree more.
What happened here? Didn’t the provincial government of Bukidnon extend support to these boys? What happened to the budget meant for sports programs and activities?
Bukidnon Governor Alex Calingasan should really look into this because that report was really embarrassing for Bukidnon.
If Bukidnon has enough budget for a so-called joggers lane and landscaping project (Php 1.7 MILLION PESOS budget, hellooo!!!), there should be enough budget to help support talented, deserving Bukidnon athletes!
AGREE?
p.s. WHO IS THE PROVINCIAL SPORTS COORDINATOR? Anybody know?
