San Fernando, Bukidnon teacher a finalist in Metrobank’s outstanding Filipinos awards
An elementary teacher in San Fernando, Bukidnon has been named as one of the finalists for this year’s Metrobank Foundation, Inc.’s Search for Outstanding Filipinos. Junmerth Jorta is a full-time elementary teacher at Keupiyanan Te Balugo, a school for the Matigsalug tribe.
According to Metrobank Foundation, Jorta “is the first, among the many volunteer educators who decided to stay and help establish a last-mile school called Keupiyanan Te Balugo.”
“Other than creating customized literacy and math modules, Jorta also conceptualized a four-year-old free lunch feeding program called “Balugo Pagkaon Sakto” aimed at addressing absenteeism and curb hunger among students.“
Jorta was also applauded for his efforts to encourage the community to practice a green lifestyle.
“Since the community is prone to landslides and flash floods, Jorta mobilized community members to practice a sustainable and green lifestyle. Through the assistance of the local government and Department of Agriculture, he facilitates a reforestation program at least twice a year and trains members of the community on proper waste disposal and management,” according to Metrobank.
Congratulations, sir!
