San Fernando, Bukidnon Declared First Insurgency-Free Municipality in Region X
San Fernando, Bukidnon has achieved a significant milestone! It is now officially the first municipality in Region 10 to be declared insurgency-free. This accomplishment is a testament to the collective efforts of local authorities, indigenous communities, security forces, and other stakeholders.
What Does “Insurgency-Free” Mean?
An insurgency-free designation signifies that the area is no longer actively threatened by rebel groups. In the case of San Fernando, the dismantling of the last operating unit of the New People’s Army (NPA), the Sub-Regional Sentro-de-Gabidad (SRSDG) Peddler, marked this achievement. This follows the dismantling of Guerilla Front 55 in December 2021 and Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) 5 in December 2022.
Collaboration is Key
Officials emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving this insurgency-free status. Brigadier General Marion Angcao, representing Major General Allan Hambala of the 10th Infantry Division (10ID), highlighted this aspect.
A Brighter Future for San Fernando
This newfound peace paves the way for positive developments in San Fernando. Major General Hambala anticipates economic growth, social development, and an improved quality of life for the residents.
Local Leaders Express Gratitude
San Fernando Mayor Rogelio Reke expressed his gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the 89th, 48th, and 56th Infantry Battalions of the 10ID in securing the municipality. He also called for continued collaboration between residents, the 10ID, and former rebels to maintain this peaceful state and ensure a prosperous future.
This is a significant achievement for San Fernando, Bukidnon, and a positive step towards lasting peace and development in the region.
