Malaybalay LGU to barangays: take down basketball rings
Despite repeated appeals not only from the local but national government as well to stay at home and help stop the spread of the deadly Coronavirus Disease 2019 or COVID-19, some Malaybalay City residents were still spotted at Plaza Rizal.
In a video captured by concerned citizen and administrator of the Facebook group “Diskurso Malaybalay” Renan Valdez, some Malaybalay folks were seen playing basketball, jogging and walking around the court area of the Plaza Rizal, a public park in downtown Malaybalay.
The video elicited various comments from netizens, many angry and disappointed at the blatant uncooperativeness.
This prompted the Malaybalay City government to ask the barangay captains or their representative to temporarily take down or cover, at the very least, the basketball rings at their respective communities.
As of this writing, the basketball ring at Plaza Rizal has already been taken down.
The Malaybalay City government and its officials have repeatedly asked the public to remain in their homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Bukidnon 2nd District Rep. Atty. John Flores also appealed to the public for their cooperation.
Meanwhile, Malaybalay City has also erected an extended screening area for residents who have cough, colds, fever and diarrhea.
