Malaybalay City declares October 23 as city’s indigenous peoples day

MALAYBALAY CITY | BUKIDNON CULTURE | TRADITION | BUKIDNON NEWS – The Malaybalay City Council recently unanimously approved a resolution declaring October 23 as the official Indigenous Peoples (IP) Day in the city.

Authored by Malaybalay City Councilor Fernando Melendez and co-authored by Committee on IP Affairs Chairman Councilor Manuel Dinlayan, the ordinance is the city’s answer to the international celebration of the IP day.

The ordinance, according to the authors, was the result of consultations with the tribal organizations in Malaybalay City.

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and other sectors of society were also consulted, according to the authors.

A budget of P500,000.00 will be allocated every year for the city’s IP day celebration.
