Bukidnon declares drag artist Pura Luka Vega persona non grata
The Provincial Government of Bukidnon has declared drag artist Pura Luka Vega, whose real name is Amadeo Fernando Pagente, persona non grata.
Pura Luka Vega is the drag queen whose video went viral. In the video, Pura Luka Vega was seen wearing a Black Nazarene-inspired outfit to be like Jesus Christ while performing the rock version of “Ama Namin,” the Filipino version of the Lord’s prayer.
Via a resolution, the Bukidnon Provincial Board said that the viral video was blasphemous. “It is also offensive, disrespectful, insulting, unacceptable and outrageous to the Christian religion and belief.”
The resolution also said that the performance “demeans the sensibilities of our Christian brothers and sisters.”
No comment yet from Pagente following this 4th persona non grata declaration. However, in an earlier interview with CNN Philippines, he said that it was just his way of expressing art and practising faith. He apologized to “those who felt uncomfortable.”
The drag queen has also been declared persona non grata in Floridablanca, Pampanga, General Santos City and Toboso, Negros Occidental.
