Below is the full text of returning Senator and former 3-term Bukidnon Congressman Juan Miguel “Migs” Zubiri, delivered last June 4, 2016 at the Kaamulan Open Theater, Malaybalay City. Bukidnon Online was there to cover the oathtaking ceremony of Senator Migs Zubiri.

Quoting the words of Gen. Mac Arthur, “I shall return.” Today, to my brothers and sisters in Mindanao, I have returned. Ang Bukidnon ang kanunay niduyog kanako dili lamang sa kadaugan apan labaw na sa kapildihan. You gave me real lessons in resilience and humility. You taught me to carry myself as a fellow civilian, out of office, with dignity, and with head unbowed. Gisugdan nako akong public service career dinhi sa Bukidnon and I am proud and honored to take my oath as duly elected Senator of the Republic of the Philippines with you, here in Bukidnon and the island of Mindanao, kung aha nagsugod ang tanan para kanako.

Kamo nasayod sa akong na-agian sa pulitika. Sa tuig 2007, ako nidagan, nidaug ug nai-proklamar nga ika-12th nga Senador gikan sa Bukidnon. Napuno ug kontrobersya ang akong pag-daug adto nga panahon pero dili kani nagpugong kanato sa pagtrabaho ug paghimo sa atong katungdanan sa Senado sa pinakamaayo sa atong makaya. Tungod niani, nahimo kitang “Trabahador ng Senado.”

Pero sa 2011, tungod sa delikadeza, ako nagbiya sa akong pagka-Senador, ninaug sa akong pwesto para sa pagpamatuod nga ang pasidungog ug dignidad sa serbisyo publiko buhi sa atong mga taga-Bukidnon.

Wala ta nabulahan ug napildi kita sa pinili-ay kadtong 2013. Sa atong kasubo, nidesisyon ta nga mo-undang na gyud sa pulitika – wala na ko plano mubalik pa sa pulitika.

Apan tungod sa mga kontrobersiya nga nagpalibot sa Senado, ang pangawkaw sa PDAF, ang permi pag-absent sa mga miyembro sa Kongreso, dagto nakita sa katawhan nga si Migs Zubiri wala ni usa ka isyu sa korapsyon ug perfect attendance, nagpakita lamang sa iyang gugma ug dedikasyon dili lamang sa iyang trabaho apan labaw na sa katawhan. Busa nagpabilin ta kanunay sa kasing-kasing sa atong katawhan sa tibook nasod. Mao kini ang nitabang sa atong makalalanoog nga kadaugan karong niaging eleksyon.

Ang niaging kampanya usa ka dako nga pagsulay kanako. Deep in my heart, I know, that our successful campaign was fueled by the blood, sweat and tears of many volunteers who I may never meet and thank personally but who convinced 16.1 million Filipinos to send me back to the Senate. This campaign was one for the books. It was fought with strategic postering. The passionate speeches and handshakes all counted. To spread our message of genuine public service, naa koy mga maayo nga endorsers – mga tinood nga tao sama kaninyo nga namulong sa inyong mga pag-antos ug mga damgo.

Nagbunga kani tanan na mga kahago. Mao kaning naa kita karon danhi sa Bukidnon, my personal choice to take my oath, a place that symbolizes the kind of service and leadership I will offer in the Senate. Here, I accept this new mandate as administered by Punong Barangay Rumel Castilla, Sr. the head of a barangay, the smallest political unit in the Philippines. With your support, I will lead the fight for greater representation of your interests in Senate or in a new democratic set-up, like a Federal State, that people are clamoring for.

Ako gasaad na kanunay muuli para maistorya kamo ug aron sa pagsubli sa atong kauyonan. I shall always come home to talk with you to refresh our covenant, embodied in this Oath of Office. I shall always come back, to strengthen our bond. My bond with you shall always be direct, concrete, transparent and forthright.

Daghang salamat ug mabuhi ang Bukidnon!
Mabuhi ang Mindanao, mabuhi ang Pilipinas!
