TRENDING: #CMUScandal

The hashtag #CMUScandal has been trending for several hours now. Interestingly, this #CMUScandal has caused quite a controversy not only because of the issue related to it but because, apparently, a lot of people including Central Mindanao University (CMU) students, professors and other stakeholders believe that since #CMUScandal started on Twitter, it should only remain on Twitter.

Moreover, some folks also think that it is “unfair” to use #CMUScandal when, allegedly, only 1 person should be held liable and that the university’s “image” should not be tainted because of one person’s actions.

More on that later. For now, let’s see why this controversial issue became a trending topic across the Philippines.

It all started on Twitter.

Bukidnon Online traced the root of it all and we found these screenshots from Twitter user @justic6seeker “justice seeker.” Check out the screenshots we took below.

#CMUScandal is about a Central Mindanao University teacher named Fernando Domagsang. Domagsang allegedly sexually harassed students.

The said Twitter user also posted statements from other alleged victims:

The alleged victims of Fernando Domagsang also shared screenshots of their conversations with the said teacher:

Meanwhile, Twitter user @jesonvillasista shared a video allegedly showing Domagsang throwing his students’ test papers instead of handing them over properly. The video has garnered over 200,000 views so far. Check this out:

So…going back to our earlier post about people’s reactions and comments about this issue.

  1. Should people worry more about the hashtag rather than the sexual assault victims?
  2. Is it wrong to use #CMUScandal because it depicts a “bad image” of the university?
  3. Since this issue started on Twitter, should people not bring it to other social media platforms?

Meanwhile, let’s see what others have to say:
