Bukidnon OFW who died in Qatar fire will not receive aid

BUKIDNON NEWS | LIBONA BUKIDNON – This is really sad news. But then again, it’s part of the risk that she took.

We’re talking about the case of an overseas Filipino worker or OFW from Bukidnon who apparently will not receive any financial aid from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWS) after dying in a fire in Doha, Qatar.

According to officials from OWWA, Margie M. Yecyec, an OFW from Libona, Bukidnon, cannot be given financial assistance because she was not a member of the OWWA.

Yecyec, 27 years old, died in a recent fire inside Villagio Mall in Doha, Qatar.

OWWA officials say that because Yecyec allegedly merely used a tourist visa (and was therefore “undocumented”) and that she had no records of official work at OWWA, no financial aid can be given.

Yecyec was working as a teacher at the Gympanzee Nursery School in Qatar.

Based on news reports, the OWWA can only provide “services” such as assistance in the bringing back of the remains.
