Bukidnon 2nd District Congressman Florencio Flores, Jr. votes for Belmonte
BUKIDNON NEWS | MALAYBALAY CITY | POLITICS | BUKIDNON ONLINE EXCLUSIVE – Newly elected Bukidnon 2nd District Rep. Florencio Flores, Jr. voted for Quezon City Rep. Sonny Belmonte for the house speakership seat today, a few hours before President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s State of the Nation Address (SONA)
Flores confirmed this with Bukidnon Online minutes before the neophyte Bukidnon congressman cast his vote.
Belmonte was proclaimed the new House Speaker after garnering 227 votes. His opponent, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, only got 29 votes.
Belmonte is with the Liberal Party. Lagman is a known LAKAS KAMPI member and an ally of former President Gloria Arroyo.
Flores, who served for three terms as Malaybalay City mayor, also admitted to Bukidnon Online that he was “sort of excited” and “curious” with the goings-on in Congress.
Political observers have said that the new Congress is the most “glitzy” in Philippine history.
Several celebrities, sports stars and children of longtime politicians have won seats in the 15th Congress.
Although not a newbie legislator as he also served as Malaybalay City Vice Mayor before his term as mayor, this is Flores’ first foray in national politics. (MISA/Mindanaoan)
