Akiko Thomson, Elma Muros and other top Filipino athletes headline “Women in Sports 2011” in Bukidnon
The “Women in Sports 2011” kicked off in Bukidnon yesterday. And guess who was in attendance?
No less than Philippine Sports Commissioner and Olympian Akiko Thomson-Guevara! (one of my idols in the field of swimming!) π Wow, wow, wow!!! Thanks to Marie of MGM Mountain Resort for the heads-up!
Akiko was joined by Maramag Bukidnon Mayor Alicia Resus during the launch of the βWalk for Fun, Walk for Life.” The event was in line with the Women in Sports 2011 celebration which will be held at the Central Mindanao University campus in Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon until July 22, 2011.
Hats off to CMU President Dr. Luisa Soliven for helping!
We’re HUGE fans of Akiko (we lost our voices from all those cheering we did when the Philippines hosted the Southeast Asian Games!) and we remember oh-so-fondly those days when even showbiz magazines wanted so badly to see an Eric Buhain-Akiko Thomson coupling haha! Those were the days π
For you kids who may not know who Akiko Thomson is, she’s a multi-awarded swimmer and an Olympian. She holds Philippine and Southeast Asian swimming records for breaststroke and backstroke. Yeah, she’s that good π
And we’re so happy to say that Akiko made quite an impression when she visited Bukidnon. Everyone tells us she was very down to earth, gracious and friendly π
Meanwhile, the other events during this Bukidnon sports event include athletics (track and field), dance sport, football and badminton.
The multi-awarded and world-class Filipina athlete Elma Muros-Posadas, along with her husband Jojo, will lead the athletics trainings.
The other trainors are:
JB Villamidez will teach badminton, Joel and Anabelle Madera will teach dancesport and partners Noah Sajo and Josette Puentevella will teach football.
Lecture-seminars on sports psychology and strength and conditioning will be provided by Prof. Henry Daut and Mr. Erlando Abilo, respectively.
