Proposed: “Ukay-ukay” to be taxed and legalized
BUKIDNON | BUKIDNON NEWS | BUSINESS | CONSUMER – Bureau of Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez said that his office is bent to legalize and tax stores that sell “ukay-ukay” (second-hand) apparel and items. The customs commissioner said that this move could help generate as much as P9 Million in revenue for the Philippine government. The commissioner also said that he already asked several congressmen to review the law concerning the “ukay-ukay” trade, which interestingly bans the trade of these second-hand apparel in the first place for both health and safety considerations.
Given that there are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of “ukay-ukay” stalls all over Bukidnon, do you think this type of law will even be implemented well in the province?
In Malaybalay City alone, there’s even an entire block dedicated only for “ukay-ukay” sellers. Can’t help but wonder if these stall owners have the proper permits to operate or if they pay taxes at all.
What do you think of this issue? Please share your thoughts!
