More than 5,000 Bukidnon teachers officially promoted to higher ranks

Public school teachers in the Philippines had trouble moving up in their careers for many years. They could only get promoted when someone retired or quit their job. This meant teachers stayed at the same level for a long time, even if they did excellent work.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. wanted to fix this problem. He told government offices to help teachers grow in their careers and improve their skills. The Department of Education (DepEd) created a new program called Expanded Career Progression (ECP).

This program is part of the Bagong Pilipinas plan and changes how teachers get promoted. Now teachers can move up based on how well they work, not just how long they wait.

On March 19 around 5,000 public school teachers in Bukidnon got promoted to higher positions under this new system. Teachers no longer have to wait for someone to leave their job before they can move up.

The new system removes the old limits on teacher promotions. DepEd says teachers can now advance without waiting for job openings.

The ECP program gives teachers two different paths to choose from. The Classroom Teaching Track lets teachers get promoted while they continue teaching students. The School Administration Track is for teachers who want to become school leaders and managers.

Cinderella Ricarte teaches at Pangantucan Central Elementary School. She said this new program completely changed her career.

After working for five years, she jumped from Teacher I all the way to Teacher IV.

DepEd says this program helps the government’s education goals. When teachers feel better about their careers and have chances to grow professionally, students benefit the most. They get better teaching from teachers who feel valued and motivated. (with news release from PIA)
