BUKIDNON ONLINE | BUKIDNON NEWS – Former Bukidnon First District Rep. JR Nereus “Neric” Acosta is the new Presidential Adviser for Environmental Protection. Neric Acosta’s appointment as the new Presidential Adviser for Environmental Protection was signed by President Noynoy Aquino yesterday. Neric Acosta is an officer of the Liberal Party. Aquino is the standard bearer of the Liberal Party. Neric Acosta, a former Bukidnon congressman, ran in the 2010 senatorial elections but lost. Acosta is the second defeated party candidate to join Aquino’s Cabinet, the other being Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas II.
Earlier this year, there were talks that Acosta was supposed to be appointed as Department of Environment and Natural Resources secretary but that fizzled out. Here’s Neric Acosta’s full statement about the allegations that also emerged at the time.

As presidential adviser, Mr. Acosta shall be instrumental in coordinating the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), during meetings with stakeholders, “for coherent implementation of policy.”
