Manolo Fortich jail declared best in Northern Mindanao
MANOLO FORTICH NEWS | BUKIDNON NEWS | GOVERNMENT – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Office recently declared the Manolo Fortich district jail as the best district jail in Northern Mindanao. This, after noting considerable development in the said jail’s facilities.
BJMP Region 10 cited Manolo Fortich as the best district jail during the culmination of its 19th anniversary celebration last August 20, 2010.
The improvement of the district jail began after the present warden, SJO4 Ramir W. Macarayan, was installed on February 2008.
It can be remembered that, in the past, the resident inmates of this facility never had a proper venue for receiving their visitors and didn’t have ample space for their daily springtime and exercises. They don’t have proper cots as well that can pass as humane sleeping places, if not comfortable, then.
During the incumbency of SJO4 Macarayan, he started to foster rapport with the Local Government Units and Non-Government Organizations, discussing matters with emphasis on the need to develop the jail into a more secure and humane facility, resulted to the allotment of materials that were later used in the refurbishment of the district jail.
Some of the skilled inmates were employed in the construction of the Dalawan Center and the improvement of the ground for spring time and daily exercises. This was a win-win situation, to the inmates and the jail bureau, since they (inmates) enjoyed the remunerations they received while in the course of rehabilitating their temporary residence and in the end they will have the benefit of using the additional facility they were building.
Additional cots were also made so they don’t have to sleep on the cold floors of the confines anymore.
These developments heightened the morale of the inmates that it proved to be a very indispensable tool in aiding them in their rehabilitation in preparation to their reintegration to the mainstream of society.
Present during the awarding ceremony were Jail Chief Superintendent Doris Remedios Doriga, Deputy Chief for Operations, BJMP-National Headquarters assisted by Jail Senoir Superintendent Pio B. Capistrano, BJMP-10 Regional Director. (BJMP Manolo Fortich)
