Malaybalay Mayor Flores passes away
Malaybalay City Mayor Florencio Flores, Jr. has died. He was 72 years old.
Flores, who was also a medical doctor and was fondly called “Doki,” passed away February 17, 2022 at 4:59 p.m.
The mayor first tested positive for the corona virus disease (COVID) last January but he later recovered last February 2, 2022. However, he tested positive again a few days later and the health scare came with certain complications.
Flores left a very long and storied career in public service. He first served as mayor of the capital of Bukidnon back in 2001. He finished all 3 terms. He then ran for Bukidnon 2nd District Congressman. He also finished all 3 terms. He ran for Malaybalay Mayor in 2019 and won. His son, Atty. Jonathan Keith “John” Flores, took over the congressional seat.
The mayor was supposed to seek re-election this 2022 elections.
On a personal note: We are personal friends with Doki. We are still trying to grasp things. We have known him for many, many years, as evidenced by our numerous stories involving him including this one, where he spent time with special children, and this special interview we had with him (he wasn’t really fond of granting interviews but he always, ALWAYS accommodated us). We will truly miss you, Doki. Our hearts are so shattered. We thank the Flores family, especially Congressman Atty. John Flores, for allowing us to grieve with them. Our deepest condolences to the Flores family. #RIPwowerts (“Wowerts” is one of his favorite expressions)
