Malaybalay Bukidnon runner Christine Hallasgo now fastest marathoner in all of Southeast Asia
The new fastest female marathoner in all of Southeast Asia is proudly from Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. Christine Hallasgo bagged the coveted gold medal in 2019 SEA Games women’s marathon held in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac on December 6, 2019.
Hallasgo, who clocked in at 2 hours, 56 minutes and 56 seconds, beat Olympian Mary Joy Tabal, who clocked in at 2 hours, 58 minutes and 49 seconds.
Hallasgo’s win is considered a surprise especially since Tabal is the first female marathon Olympian for the Philippines. Tabal also finished the rigorous Milo Marathons and Boston Marathons several times.
Tabal encountered dehydration and struggled to finish the last lap. Third place went to Vietnam’s Thi Hong Le Pham, who clocked in at 3 hours, 2 minutes and 52 seconds.
News reports have quoted Hallasgo as saying that she didn’t expect to win. She thanked the Lord for helping her finish the last lap.
