Eight Malaybalay City hall employees resign amid video of shabu session

Eight Malaybalay City hall employees have reportedly resigned. This, after a video of them engaged in a pot session was allegedly shown to Malaybalay City Mayor Ignacio Zubiri several days ago.

The video was the result of several months of surveillance by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The Malaybalay City hall employees – all job order employees – allegedly engaged in the shabu session during office hours. Reports even claim that some of the employees in the video wore their office uniforms.

Malaybalay City Mayor Inaki Zubiri has released a statement about the issue. He said that he has told the employees in question to resign and that the employees voluntarily did so. Zubiri said that the employees no longer reported for work since January 11, 2012.

Zubiri, in his statement, stressed that as an anti-drug advocate, he will not tolerate any wrongdoings especially when these involve illegal drugs.

As of this posting, no charges have been filed against the employees.

Since last week, people in Malaybalay City have been talking about this issue albeit hush-hush. Several names have already cropped up and text messages have even been circulated.

A news report aired via ABS CBN Northern Mindanao said that one of those employees who voluntarily resigned is the Executive Assistant of Mayor Zubiri.
