Barely 5 months after Kaamulan Festival 2015, Bukidnon is again set to celebrate Kaamulan 2016! The annual Bukidnon festival, recognized by a former Tourism Secretary as the only authentic ethnic festival in the Philippines, aims to gather the seven hill tribes of the Province of Bukidnon. The ethnic hill tribes are Talaandig, Manobo, Matigsalug, Tigwahanun, Higaonon, Umayamnun and Bukidnon.

Kaamulan is usually held every March but in 2014, it was held in August so that it would coincide with the Bukidnon Centennial Celebration. Last 2015, it was held in October. This 2016, it’s now back to March. As per info from the Bukidnon Tourism Office, the activities will begin on March 1, 2016 and will last until April 2, the day of the Kaamulan Street Dancing Competition 2016.

Activities during the Kaamulan Festival include a bazaar, garden show, food fest, agri-fair, rodeo, motocross, concerts, pamuhat (traditional exercise), ethnic songwriting workshop, ethnic dance clinic, piniliyapan (Bukidnon Dances), the much-awaited Kaamulan 2016 Street Dancing Competition (which will be held on April 2, 2016) as well as various other rituals which showcase the rich culture and beliefs of Bukidnon tribes.

All of the Kaamulan Festival 2016 activities will be held in Malaybalay City, the capital of Bukidnon.

Kaamulan is an indigenous Bukidnon term for “gathering” for any purpose. It can mean a datuship ritual, a wedding ceremony, a thanksgiving festival during harvest time, a peace pact, or all of these together.
